Aug 6, 2014 20:28 Green Wave adds Mississippi State to schedule Green Wave adds Mississippi State to schedule Scott Kushner| Special to The Advocate Aug. 06, 2014 Comments The first Saturday of December is going to be a busy one at Tulane. On Monday, Mississippi State men’s basketball coach Rick Ray said on Twitter that his Bulldogs will travel to New Orleans to match up with the Green Wave on Dec. 6. That same day, Tulane’s football team will host American Athletic Conference foe Temple in the regular-season finale at Yulman Stadium. Tulane officials said the basketball game will be played at Devlin Fieldhouse, marking the first time in at least 40 years the school will host a football and men’s basketball game at its Uptown campus on the same day. It does create a few logistical issues for Tulane’s athletic administration. As a member of The American, kickoff times for Tulane football will be determined by its television partners at ESPN just 12 days before the game. So Tulane basketball coach Ed Conroy is forced to wait until late November to choose when the Green Wave’s game against MSU will begin. Regardless of when the game tips off, hosting Mississippi State on campus is a significant boon for Tulane. The Green Wave hasn’t played a Southeastern Conference opponent in its home gym since it beat Auburn 77-62 in November 2007 and hasn’t played an SEC team in New Orleans since beating LSU 68-63 at the New Orleans Arena in January 2008. Mississippi State is the second opponent from a high-major conference to announce its intentions to play at Tulane this season. The Green Wave is hosting Wake Forest of the ACC on Nov. 17. Tulane also is scheduled to face St. John’s of the Big East on Dec. 28 at the Barclays Center in New York and has a to-be-determined date in Seattle with Washington of the Pac-12.
