St. John Parish sheriff’s deputy arrested and fired after fueling up personal car

A St. John the Baptist Parish sheriff’s deputy has been fired and charged with theft and malfeasance in office for fueling up a personal vehicle on the taxpayers’ dime, Sheriff Mike Tregre announced Wednesday.

Veteran deputy Keith Carroll, 32, of LaPlace, was booked Sunday under a warrant. Carroll, a 7-year deputy, was last assigned to the Criminal Patrol Division, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Carroll has been released on a personal surety bond. Tregre said Carroll was fired last week following an investigation sparked by a citizen complaint. Authorities allege that Carroll used his sheriff’s office fuel card to “fuel a non-department vehicle.”
