Man shot to death Sunday in Carrollton

A man died after being shot several times Sunday night in the 1600 block of Joliet Street, New Orleans police said.

The victim, who police said was in his 20s but who has not been identified, was shot about 9 p.m. Police found him lying unresponsive on the sidewalk. An ambulance took him to a hospital, where he died.

Neighbors said they heard between five and eight shots.

One man, who declined to give his name, said that when he walked out of his house to see what had happened, he could still smell gunpowder in the air. He then heard the man moaning. He did not recognize the victim.

Slidell man dies in crash on U.S. 90

A 30-year-old Slidell man died in a single-vehicle crash Sunday night on U.S. 90 near U.S. 190 in Slidell, officials said.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m., Preston Blake Marchant was driving a 2006 Toyota Scion on U.S. 90 eastbound when his vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and hit a tree, State Police said in a news release.

Marchant, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from his vehicle. He suffered severe injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he died.

State Police do not suspect impairment was a factor in the crash, but blood samples were obtained and will be analyzed. The crash remains under investigation.

JPSO: Man shot Sunday in Marrero

A man was shot near the intersection of Lapalco Boulevard and Sauvage Avenue in Marrero about 9 p.m. Sunday, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

In a crime alert bulletin, the office said the victim’s condition was unknown.

Man shot Monday in Upper 9th Ward

A man was shot near North Claiborne Avenue and Desire Street about 1:45 p.m. Monday, New Orleans police said.

The victim, 29, said he was walking when he heard gunshots and realized he had been hit in the back.

Armed robbers shoot at uncooperative victim

A man-and-woman team of armed robbers in New Orleans East fired two shots at a victim after he refused to give them the code to his cellphone Sunday night, police said.

The victim was approached by the pair in the 7000 block of Bundy Road about 7 p.m., according to a police offense log. The victim, 28, agreed to let them use his cellphone, but the woman then pointed a gun at him while her partner went through his pockets, taking cash and headphones.

Police said when the robbers asked the man for his phone code, he refused, snatched the phone back and ran. The robbers shot at the victim twice as he fled, according to police, but hit only his jeans.

Carjacker strikes Sunday in Bywater

A 28-year-old man walking out of his house in the 600 block of Louisa Street just before midnight Sunday night was confronted by a robber who pointed a gun at him and ordered, “Don’t look at me,” according to police.

The robber then took the man’s wallet as well as his black 2010 Honda CRV.

Four robbed in Jefferson Parish

Two men were robbed at gunpoint in the 1800 block of Squire Court in Marrero about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. Neither man was injured.

Deputies reported a separate armed robbery of a man in the 300 block of Capitol Drive in Avondale, again with no injuries, about 2:30 a.m. Monday.

In Harvey, a woman was robbed in the 1300 block of Dogwood Drive about 10:30 a.m. Monday, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Pair of McDonald’s restaurants held up

Two McDonald’s restaurants in New Orleans were targeted by one or more armed robbers on Sunday.

Police said a man with a gun demanded money from the register at a McDonald’s at 3025 Elysian Fields Ave. about 1:30 p.m. He fled with some cash and hopped into an old, burgundy Oldsmobile Cutlass, according to police. The car had a woman in the passenger’s seat, Mississippi plates and a damaged front bumper, police said.

A gunman also walked into the burger chain’s outlet in the 1900 block of North Broad Street about 2:30 p.m. and demanded money from the cashier before fleeing.
