Harvey murder suspect surrenders to JPSO

The suspect in a recent fatal shooting of a woman on the West Bank has been arrested.

Eric Alexander, 19, of Harvey, surrendered Tuesday night to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and was booked on a count of second-degree murder.

Alexander was wanted in connection with the shooting of Ayesha Majeed, 18, who was shot at about 4 a.m. Saturday in the 3700 block of Clover Lane in Harvey.

The Sheriff’s Office has not provided a motive for her death.

Alexander remained locked up Wednesday evening. His bail was set at $750,000, according to jail records.

Coroner identifies man slain in Desire shooting

A man killed Tuesday evening during a double shooting in the Desire area has been identified as Thomas Labeaud, 21.

Labeaud was shot at about 5 p.m. in the 3300 block of Morrice Duncan Drive by two men who walked up to him in the driveway of a home, police said. He died at the scene.

Another person, a 26-year-old man, was wounded in the shooting. Police said his injuries were not serious.

Argument led to cutting, New Orleans police say

Police arrested a man after he allegedly cut another man during an argument Tuesday in New Orleans East.

Just before noon, a dispute that Shontell Cooks, 30, was having with another man turned violent when Cooks grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the 20-year-old victim, according to a daily police log.

The victim, who was cut in his hand and left arm, refused medical treatment.

Police booked Cooks with aggravated battery.

Woman and relatives carjacked in N.O. East

Three men who had trailed a woman carjacked her Tuesday night after she got out of her vehicle in New Orleans East, police said.

The 45-year-old victim, who was behind the wheel, and her relatives were inside an Infiniti when the victim parked the vehicle in the 4800 block of Nighthart Street at about 8:50 p.m., according to a daily police log.

As the victim got out of her vehicle, she noticed a black Acura had followed her. Three men were inside.

Two of the men got out of the Acura and demanded the passengers get out of the victim’s vehicle. Both vehicles then sped away from the scene.

Police did not provide descriptions of the carjackers.

Armed men knock off convenience store

Two men robbed a Gentilly convenience store at gunpoint early Wednesday morning, New Orleans police said.

At about 4:30 a.m., two unknown men walked into a business in the 3100 block of Elysian Fields Avenue, near Interstate 610, and demanded money from both registers.

The men ran away after they received the money.

Police said the men wore black, hooded sweatshirts and bandanas over their faces.
