Victim of Friday killing in New Orleans ID’d

A man who was fatally shot Friday in the parking lot of a Burger King restaurant in Gentilly has been identified.

John Gagliano, chief investigator for the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office, said Saturday the man was Shawn Cheneau, 28.

Cheneau was shot multiple times at about 3:30 p.m. in the 4400 block of Chef Menteur Highway. He was rushed to LSU Interim Hospital, where he died later that day.

Police have not made any arrests or identified any suspects in the killing.

Witnesses told police that a gold or tan Toyota Solara with tinted windows and two men inside sped away from the parking lot after the shooting. One man wore a black skull cap, and the other wore a blue jacket, police said.

Homicide detective Charles Hoffacker is in charge of the investigation.

Man killed in Marrero Saturday night

A man was killed Saturday night in Marrero, according to a release from Jefferson Parish 911 headquarters. The man’s death was reported at about 7:30 p.m. in the 2600 block of Pelican Bay Boulevard. No cause of death or additional information was immediately available.
