Advocate staff report Nov. 23, 2013 Comments New Orleans-based Entergy Corp. celebrated its 100th anniversary Wednesday with activities in power plants and offices throughout the 10 states where the utility operates. The company said its story began Nov. 13, 1913, with a pile of sawdust and a handshake between Harvey Couch and H.H. Foster, president of the Arkansas Land and Lumber Co. Couch used the sawdust as fuel to generate electricity for his power company, which would eventually become Entergy, one of the United States’ largest integrated energy companies. Entergy delivers electricity to 2.8 million utility customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. Entergy has annual revenues of more than $10 billion and approximately 15,000 employees.
