Cajun Zydeco Fest steps out at Armstrong Park

The eighth annual Louisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival runs 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. This year the event, another of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival Foundation’s community festivals, moves from the Old U.S. Mint to Armstrong Park.

The 2014 festival lineup include Grammy-winning zydeco act Buckwheat Zydeco and Grammy-winning Cajun band Beausoleil avec Michael Doucet with guest Jo-El Sonnier, the singer-accordion player who released the country hits “Tear-Stained Letter” and “No More One More Time.”

Also performing this year are Cajun-rock band the Lost Bayou Ramblers; Tipitina’s long-running Sunday Cajun fais do-do performer, Bruce Daigrepont; and zydeco performers Rosie Ledet, Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers, and Sunpie and the Louisiana Sunspots.

Sweet Crude, a young New Orleans band that sings in French and English, makes its Louisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival debut Sunday.
